Getting A Raise At Work

One of the easier ways to generate more revenue is to get a raise at your existing job. Finding a job is the hard part, but once you have one, you should milk it for all it’s worth. There may be opportunities for you to make more money at work. Some of these might be right under your nose. Here are some methods you can employ to try and get a raise at work.

Just Ask

There’s no shame in asking for a raise. If the company is in financial trouble then don’t bother wasting your time. But if you are privy to the financial dealings of the business and if times are good, gather up the courage to ask for a raise. What’s the worst that can happen, they say no? Then you’ll be in the same spot as before, but at least you’ll know.

Work more in less time

You might think you can’t get another job because you already work a 9 to 5, five days a week. But what if you only needed to work 4 days a week. Then you’d have an extra day and the possibility of having spare time to get a part time job. So ask your employer if it is possible for you to work 10 hours per day for 4 days, rather than 8 hours for 5 days.

Overtime

Employers may not like when their employees work overtime, but if they need you, go for it. Getting overtime pay is better than having a second job. Staying at work a couple of extra hours every now and then is worth it when you end up with a fatter paycheck.

Go the extra mile

Before asking for your raise, make sure you are extremely valuable to the company. In the weeks before you ask, step up your game and do more around the workplace. If your boss sees that you’re doing the job of two people, they will be more likely to grant you a raise, since giving a raise is cheaper than hiring someone new.

Be qualified

Further your education and you will be more likely to get a raise. Take some classes at night or online courses. Even if you can’t get a bachelors degree at least get some certification offered at a local community college. Your current company will fear losing you to their competitor since you have both experience and education.

Maybe in small companies these tips are great and I’m sure they’ll work, but in MNCs like IBM, Microsoft, it’s a completely different ballgame. They have this whole procedure, yearly performance evaluation and in the end, crazy competition. Here most people are underpaid, and are still asked to go the extra mile, so they can apply for the position that hundred other employees are rooting for… It’s a sad story.
