Thinking Of Making Money On eBay?

This online auction marketplace was created so that regular people like you and me could sell their stuff. Think of it as the world’s largest yard sale. To make some money on eBay you need to figure out what you want to sell and where you can get it. Starting your own eBay business is not easy though. There is lots of competition out there. But if you have the will and determination to make it work then you will have success with your eBay business. Here are some things to consider if you’re thinking of making money with eBay.

Sell Your Stuff

A good first step to starting an eBay business is to begin by selling your own belongings. This way you can get a hang of the whole process to see if it’s something you’d be interested in doing. Not only that but you can make some good money selling stuff that was just collecting dust at home. Getting rid of your old cell phone and laptop are items that will surely sell fast. Starting this way is also good because you can also build up your feedback score. If you ever want to start a store on eBay you need to have a lot of positive feedback so start getting your feedback points early.

Time

If you concentrate on cheap items where your profit margin is slim and hope to sell a lot of them, good luck with that. You’ll find out that you’ll be spending an exorbitant amount of hours answering emails, packaging items and getting them shipped. For a US based person working from home it is probably better to focus on more expensive items. Sure you won’t sell as many but you’ll work less for the same amount of profit.

Competition

On eBay I’ve noticed that the Chinese eBayers are taking over many industries, especially anything tech. For example, you can find knockoff iPhone chargers and cases for just a couple of bucks. That includes taxes and shipping. There’s no way you can compete with those prices. So you’ll have to avoid selling those types of items. Look around eBay and see what people are buying and see if you can get your hands on any of that stuff for a good price.

Buy low, sell high

Buying items at a low price and selling them at a much higher price on eBay is easier said than done. If you think you can make money buying inexpensive items at flea markets and yard sales, and then sell them for a higher price on eBay, then go for it. But if it was really that easy everyone would be doing it. The truth of the matter is that eBay is the place where people go to find yard sale-like prices. On top of that eBay charges a fee for listing your item and then another fee based on the amount your item sold for. Then Paypal takes another bite of your profit when you accept payment through them. The trick of this game is to find items that are extremely cheap and sell regularly on eBay.
